UN FOCUSES ON RIGHTS FOR CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES

NEW YORK- Presentations by a variety of stakeholders discussed issues around the rights of children with disabilities today at UN Headquarters. The session was sponsored by the European Union, UNICEF and a number of civil society organizations, including the International Disability Alliance, Save the Children and Handicapped International.

Ms. Akiko Ito, Chief of the Secretariat for the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), introduced the session. Ms. Ito said that this issue is important in the development process.
